During a meeting with a friend the other day, I was struck by his resilience. He had spent a few years on a professional goal, a REALLY important big goal. And he’d faced challenges and large adversities (like OH-NO-WAY adversities) along the way. And yet, he was SO resilient. He had something that I call 𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔-𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑚-𝑤𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑙𝑒-𝑖𝑡-𝑡𝑜-𝑡ℎ𝑒-𝑚𝑎𝑡 resilience.
Do you need to lead yourself or your team with resilience? Try these things on:

Put on your strategic hat to understand and put challenges into perspective, and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. With the bigger picture, you’ll see adversity not only as a challenge to be overcome but as a chance to learn and grow.

Remember that confidence we were working on for building courage? Don’t beat yourself up or get discouraged at the first spot of resistance. This may simply mean sticking to your decisions and being open to receiving new information and adjusting the path forward accordingly.

Well-used humility is never wasted. Humility is NOT about making yourself smaller or being walked over. Humility balances you and is there to say: OK, I need to see a new and different perspective with an open mind, listen to feedback, and be unafraid to adjust my approach or strategy.

Don’t fear for the future, which could cause you to drift into confusion and apathy. At a point of failure, stop the failure in its tracks by meeting it with positivity and inspiration, even when the future is uncertain. Whether the glass is half-full or half-empty, its got something in it, and it’s something we can work with. A positive mind eases the stresses and enables perseverance.
Did my friend reach his big goal amidst the challenges? You’re darn right he did, and he’s already enjoying the journey toward another big goal.
