Now Boarding: Getting On or Off the Train

This one isn’t new… but there are deeper thoughts worth digging into.

It’s pretty easy to see how this relates to your life and your career.

Once you realize you’re on the wrong path with a person, a behavior, an educational, or a career path, take action as soon as possible to get off and adjust.

Not too enlightening at the surface. But there’s more behind it…

Because it isn’t always immediately obvious that we’re on the wrong train in life. Or what starts out feeling like the *right* train, slowly and subtly, becomes the *wrong* train. Or we miss the station where we’re supposed to transfer and find ourselves several stops in the wrong direction.

You are OK! • You can learn from this!

Within this, two areas may plague you until you embrace the concepts:
• Identifying and owning the “once you realize” part.
• Knowing how and where to go once you “get off at the next station” part.

The real key to properly applying this analogy to your life is in understanding how you can stay on top of recognizing the realizations and build in continuous ways to align to what’s most important at your next station.

• Set your north stars
• Understand, align, and continuously check in with your values
• Let go of the “potential” you have gained through your experience, if it’s not where you want to be going.
• Drop the “shoulds” of your career that continue to lead you to take on roles (routes) that aren’t right for you.
• Truly let go of the expectations you believe others have for you. This is *your* journey.
• Remember that tough decisions and change aren’t always as simple as stepping off the train. The key is that you are capable of so much, even if the first steps are difficult.
